Product Description Detectives Ricardo Tubbs and Sonny Crockett investigate the murders of two federal agents and find themselves pulled into the world of drug traffickin
Amazon.com Bearing absolutely no resemblance to the 1980s TV series that helped to propel Michael Mann into big-time filmmaking, Miami Vice is the kind of serious, and seriously stylish, crime drama that Mann does better than anyone else. As written by Mann himself, this undercover sting thriller doesn't reach the peak intensity of Mann's 1995 classic Heat, and it lacks the tight, nail-biting suspense of Collateral, but that doesn't mean it doesn't occasionally pack a wallop. As Miami detectives Sonny Crockett and Ricardo Tubbs (respectively), Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx don't have to do much but mumble their plot-thickening dialogue and look ultra-cool in the casual cop attire, and their partnership is rather lifeless on screen (perhaps owing to the fact that this was a troubled production, with an actual shooting that occurred during filming, and Foxx's refusal to risk his life on dangerous locations in South America). But once Mann shifts into high gear with a plot to foil a powerful drug kingpin (Luis Tosar) and his ruthless middle-man (John Ortiz), Vice pays off with the kind of smart, realistic action that Mann's fans have come to expect. With Chinese superstar Gong Li as Crockett's love interest on the wrong side of the law, Miami Vice covers territory that's a little too familiar, and one suspects Mann's screenplay might've been punched up with a polish or two. Still, this is an above-average crime thriller that demands and rewards close attention, with a climactic shoot-out that's pure Mann, worthy of the brooding drama that precedes it. --Jeff Shannon

Miami Vice August 2, 2010 N. Lacerte (Virginia) This particular Blu-ray DVD deleted the first five minutes of the original movie, also the aspect ratio is not 1.78:1 as advertised but rather 2.40:1. Don't waste your money on this one.
Blu Ray review of Miami Vice July 7, 2010 Action Movie Fan The video is 4/5
The sound is 5/5
You've all seen the movie, so no need to review it other than to say the two gun fights are the best I've seen in any movie. This is not a movie to think about, just do along for the ride and enjoy it. This movie does share something in common with the original, the movie has a good soundtrack. Nonpoint does a good job remaking Phil Collins In The Air Tonight. Colin Farrell does a good job, Jamie Fox continues to impress his ability to do drama, and Gong Li is attractive in her role.
Miami Vice rocks May 16, 2010 Thomas J. Easter (Washington, DC USA) Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx are the best actors out there but I think they did a respectable job of catching the essence. Colin's changing accent was a bit of a nuisance. Michael Mann's directing ability, vision and eye for detail though are bar not. The level of realism is amazing.
Fantastic, gritty update April 8, 2010 mfx3 (Virginia) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I grew up on the show. This movie is not the show. It doesn't try to be the show, doesn't throw around a bunch limp, mindless inside-joke homages to the show, and sure as hell never apologizes for the fact that it is not, in fact, the original TV show. In fact, I don't recall a single joke or moment of comic relief. And that, my friend, is a relief. This is a different beast entirely, and God I love it. Fantastic film if you're willing to overlook the fact that it's not a failed attempt to reattain former glory of a campy (although great) 80's television program.
Crime Drama Flop February 9, 2010 J. Owen (Williamsburg, VA USA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Michael Mann's "Miami Vice" (2006) is crime drama that never gets off the ground. The film is remarkable for what it leaves out and what it includes. Save for the shootout at the end of the film there is precious little gunplay. The drugs also receive little camera attention. While verbally mentioned the drugs are almost invisible in the film, existing only as suspect "packages" sitting around on boats. The drug lord himself maybe gets five minutes of screen time, as does the snitch who rats him out to keep his stay-out-of-jail-card and tax-payer-funded mansion. The drug lord's security handler ends up with far more screen time, but he winds up being a character of almost of no importance, as the police outsmart him at just about every turn and the drug lord escapes cleanly without his aid. So, what exactly did he contribute to the story except for a weak love quadrangle? The white supremacists that begin and end the film as the villains totally disappear for most of the film, making yet another weak subplot in the story. Totally absent from the movie is the requisite paperwork that haunts any investigative police work. Also missing is a police facility of any stripe. Even more striking is the lack of teamwork. Partners Colin Ferrell and Jamie Foxx are almost always going solo, which inevitably leads to the seemingly requisite James Bond love scenes. How many undercover officers actually have casual sex with their operation teammates (portrayed by Jamie Foxx and teammate Naomie Harris) or the target's girl (portrayed by Colin Ferrell and Gong Li as the drug lord's girlfriend)? Apart from being sexual sidekicks, the females in this film have little role to play and receive almost no screen time outside of this role. This film has little action, lacks realism, and suffers from a confused and poorly directed plot.
